Compulsory Attendance
Ages 6 to 17
Notification / Registration
Parents file an annual certificate of enrollment with the local school attendance officer on or before September 15 each year (Miss. Code §37-13-91). A parent found by the attendance officer to be in noncompliance must comply within ten (10) days after the officer gives written notice of the noncompliance (Miss. Code §37-13-91(6)).
How a Cover School Helps
Mississippi recognizes legitimate home instruction programs. The compliance mechanism the statute sets out is the parent’s own certificate of enrollment with the local attendance officer, and no statute gives a cover school a legal role in it. What a cover school provides here is a records service, issuing report cards, a transcript and a diploma in its own name.

No state-mandated curriculum for home instruction programs.
Attendance
No minimum day-count for home instruction programs (the 180-day public school requirement does not apply to nonpublic schools including homeschools).
Records & Testing
Parents keep the annual certificate of enrollment current with the local attendance officer (Miss. Code §37-13-91(6)). The statute prescribes no record format and requires no portfolios or test scores to be filed with the state; the parent keeps their own records of attendance and progress. No state testing requirement for homeschool students.
