Compulsory Attendance
Ages 5 to 18 (kindergarten is a half day, and a parent may elect by certified mail to withhold a 5-year-old from kindergarten until the school year after the child turns six)
Notification / Registration
No state notification or registration of any kind. The 10-105(A) exemption turns on the family providing other means of education for the full term the district schools are in session.
How a Cover School Helps
Oklahoma has no state oversight of private schools, and an Oklahoma family needs no filing of any kind. Oklahoma law gives a cover school no statutory school-of-record function: the attendance-record duty in 70 O.S. 10-106 falls on the principal or head teacher of each school in the State of Oklahoma, and the 10-105(A) exemption turns on the education the family itself provides. What a cover school adds here is a records service, issuing report cards, a transcript and a diploma in its own name.
